When Do I Need a Building Permit?

In general, the Connecticut State Building Code (SBC) requires that all construction or regulated work be provided or performed under a building permit issued by the local building official. There are exemptions for minor work described under Section 105.2 of the SBC and exemptions for “ordinary repairs to structures” described under the SBC, with similar language in the International Residential Code (IRC).
